BraamBuddy
Safe, Smart & Local
BraamBuddy is an initiative designed to empower young people from Johannesburg, Soweto, and surrounding areas while helping you explore safely and authentically.
A "BraamBuddy" is your local friend on the ground: someone who knows the streets, shortcuts, culture, and hidden gems better than anyone else.
Many of our buddies are young locals who grew up here, some of whom have faced challenges like unemployment or homelessness, and now get the opportunity to earn an income by sharing their knowledge and keeping you company.
Whether you’re a tourist, a student, running an errand in an unfamiliar place, attending a meeting somewhere you're unsure of, or just someone exploring the city, your BraamBuddy will accompany you.

Your Local Streetwise Buddy
Guide you around safely
Your BraamBuddy knows the streets inside out. They’ll help you avoid common scams, unsafe areas, and pickpockets so you can relax and enjoy your day.
Show you the real Braam & Soweto
May go beyond the usual tourist spots. From famous landmarks to hidden gems only locals know, your buddy will connect you to the authentic energy of the city.
They may not know all the historic facts or deeper knowledge, but they do have personal stories and real day-to-day understanding of these places.
A Friend by Your Side
It’s like exploring with a trusted friend who knows the shortcuts, the safest routes, and the coolest hangouts — all while keeping an eye out for you.
The Heart Behind BraamBuddy
BraamBuddy is more than just a way to explore Johannesburg safely — it’s a movement for change.
Behind every Buddy is a real story. Many of our Buddies are young people from Braamfontein, Soweto, and surrounding townships.
Some have faced living on the streets, difficulty finding work, and daily struggles most visitors never see.
Opportunities are limited, yet dreams are endless.

BraamBuddy creates a chance to rewrite these stories:

Empowering Youth:
By providing real, dignified work with growth opportunity in a vibrant industry.
